Having a god website is a great idea, but without visitors it’s
no better than a personal book. For a website to be productive, traffic is a key
factor. In this post I am going to touch on different ways in which one can boost
traffic to his / her site. This involves both paid and free means. As usual where
there is investment there is likely to be more yields and so paid means will offer
more and more targeted traffic to your site compared to free ones. However if you
are not making any profit from the traffic then it becomes also a meaningless investment.
Let
us begin by looking at the paid sources of traffic.
Paid Methods
Advertising
Advertising involves putting links to your sites on other top
sites like Google so that people can link to your site. This is the only way proved
to bring more and more people to your site. It works in this way that you always
pay for any person who visits your site. There are different companies which offer
such a service and they include: Google, yahoo, facebook among others. You can take
advantage of the services from any of them.
Search Engine optimization
This means making a website to conform to the standards set by
search service providers. It’s a technical service that requires an expert or an
a person who can monitor a website’s performance. You can hire a company or a person
to do it for you if you are not experienced but beware of scams; people who will
boost your traffic for two days and it goes back to zero so that you may hire them
again.
Free Methods
Backlinks
Backlinks are just links on other websites which link to your
own website. You can visit forums, and respond to discussions then embed a link
to your website. Though it sounds too good, it’s a hard thing to work on. Indeed
you may find yourself hiring someone to do that for you.
Using social networks
Social networks work well for site owners especially if they
have many followers or friends. The number of twitter followers one has can be turned to traffic at a click of a button; for example
by sharing a post on ones timeline will make it visible to friends who can in turn
like or share it and the chain continues. Such networks include facebook, twitter,
Google+, twitter, dig, linkedin, netlog among many others.
Search engine submission
Every day people visit the internet and in many cases they know
not what they want or where to find what they are looking for. They only now opt
to search for the terms often called “keyword” using a search engine like Google,
yahoo or Bing.
Submitting and having your site listed in these places will make
it visible when people search for those keywords. This will boost the number of
people visiting your site.
There are several other ways in which you can boost your sites
performance but these are the main ones. In case your site is a business you can
even invest using the paid methods, but if your site is just a place where you post
your photos then you better use the free means. The choice depends on you.
